I have photographed weddings at venues all across Mauritius — from the wild, windswept south to the calm, crystalline north. Every location has its own personality, its own light, and its own magic. Here are my top ten picks for 2026, and what makes each one special through the lens.
1. Le Morne
There is nowhere quite like Le Morne. The iconic basalt mountain rising straight out of the lagoon creates a backdrop so dramatic it barely looks real — and yet it is entirely, breathtakingly real. The lagoon water here shifts between turquoise and deep jade depending on the light, and the beach itself is pristine and uncrowded. For sunset ceremonies, this is my number one recommendation without hesitation. The mountain catches the last golden light of the day in a way that makes every photograph feel like a painting.
Logistics: Le Morne is at the south-western tip of the island. A few resorts operate here, including the outstanding Heritage Le Telfair and Dinarobin Beachcomber, both of which offer beautiful ceremony spaces directly on the beach or in stunning garden settings overlooking the lagoon.
2. Pointe aux Canonniers
This is one of my personal favourites — a quiet headland at the northern tip of the island where the light has a quality I have never found anywhere else. The vegetation is lush and tropical, the sea views stretch endlessly, and there is a sense of seclusion that feels genuinely rare on an island as popular as Mauritius. I have photographed couples here at sunrise and at golden hour and the results have been extraordinary both times. If you want something a little off the beaten path — intimate, beautiful, and full of genuine romance — Pointe aux Canonniers is where I would send you.
3. Tamarin Bay
Tamarin sits on the west coast and has a bohemian, unhurried energy that I absolutely love. The bay is wide and protected, the sunsets are spectacular, and the surrounding mountains give the location a sense of scale that photographs magnificently. Tamarin is particularly wonderful for couples who want something a little less formal — the vibe here is relaxed, golden, and full of warmth. It is also close to excellent accommodation options in the Black River area, making it very practical for guests travelling from across the island.
4. Grand Baie
Grand Baie is the most cosmopolitan location on this list — it is Mauritius's most popular tourist hub, buzzing with restaurants, boutiques, and activity. But its setting is genuinely beautiful. The bay is large, calm, and sheltered, and the light on the water in the late afternoon is something to behold. Several stunning venues operate in and around Grand Baie, and its central northern location makes it extremely accessible for guests arriving from all over the island. If you want that blend of beauty, convenience, and access to excellent wedding services, Grand Baie delivers.
5. Flic en Flac
This is my home, and I am completely biased — but also completely right. Flic en Flac has one of the longest and most beautiful beaches on the island, the sunsets here are world-class, and there is a warm, community feeling to this stretch of coast that I have never found anywhere else in Mauritius. The beach is wide enough to find privacy even at busier times of year, and the backdrop of the Rempart mountain range to the east catches the light beautifully throughout the day. For golden hour on the west coast, Flic en Flac is simply unbeatable.
6. La Preneuse
Just south of Flic en Flac, La Preneuse is quieter, wilder, and in some ways even more beautiful. The beach here is less manicured — it has a raw, natural quality that I find deeply photogenic. There is an old martello tower at the edge of the beach which adds a wonderful historical element to any photographs. I love shooting elopements and intimate ceremonies here particularly — the wildness of the location suits a couple who want something real, unpolished, and genuinely romantic.
7. Belle Mare
Belle Mare on the east coast is the definition of luxury Mauritius. The beach here is impossibly white and the water is a shade of blue that seems almost artificially perfect. The light on the east coast is different — crisper, brighter, cleaner — and creates a completely different mood to the warm golden west coast sunsets. Belle Mare is home to some of the island's most prestigious resort properties, including One&Only Le Saint Géran and Shangri-La Le Touessrok, both of which offer magnificent ceremony settings. For morning or late-afternoon ceremonies, this location is exceptional.
8. Île aux Cerfs
Getting married on an island off an island — it truly doesn't get more special than this. Île aux Cerfs requires a short boat ride across the turquoise Trou d'Eau Douce lagoon, which immediately sets the tone for an adventure and gives me some wonderful opportunities to capture candid moments. The island itself is lush, privately managed, and extraordinarily beautiful. The sense of complete seclusion makes every couple feel like the only people in the world — which, for a wedding day, is exactly how you want to feel.
9. Chamarel
For couples who want something completely different — dramatic, lush, and unlike anywhere else on the island — Chamarel is your answer. The famous seven-coloured earth, the waterfalls crashing through dense jungle, and the panoramic views across the south of the island create a backdrop so surreal it feels almost cinematic. Chamarel suits adventurous couples who aren't afraid to hike a little and who want photographs that look unlike any other Mauritius wedding they've ever seen. I love shooting here — it pushes me creatively in the best possible way.
10. Black River Gorges
My wildcard, and a deeply personal recommendation. The mountainous interior of Mauritius is criminally underused as a wedding backdrop — most photographers never venture beyond the coastline. But the gorges and viewpoints offer sweeping panoramic views that remind you just how extraordinarily beautiful and varied this island truly is. Couples who are willing to take the road less travelled, who want photographs that tell a genuinely different story, will be rewarded with images that are utterly one of a kind.
Thinking about your venue? I'd love to help you choose the perfect location for your light, your style, and your story. Every location on this island has its own magic — and finding the right match for each couple is one of my favourite parts of the process.
